T.I.A. (This Is Africa)

I have come to believe there are two versions of Africa; there's the tourist Africa and then there's the real Africa.  Many people come here for a week-long safari, take pictures with children at an orphanage, eat at upscale restaurants and then go home to their normal lives.  I can't say I blame them; there is an absolutely beautiful side to this country which draws in people to vacation.  But there is also the other side, the real Africa as I like to call it, which is consumed with people who live in poverty and struggle day to day.  Most people walk or rely on unreliable public transportation.  Most people cook at home to save on costs.  Most people have never been on a safari.  Most people are not found in fancy lodges, but they are found everywhere else you look...

You'll never see so many people 'hanging out'

The real Africa is what calls me.  The need for good work here is immeasurable, and I look forward to making a difference, however large or small that may be.
