It's been just 1.5 months since we arrived back in Tanzania and I've already been on antibiotics three times. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until I catch Malaria again, but I'm not too worried since it's so common here that the medicine is easily available (and highly effective). Within the first couple of weeks while mom was visiting, I had the African Tummy, which is a nice way of saying that my bowels were out of whack because I ate dirty fruit. Then I got Strep Throat (no idea how). And finally, I have a UTI. Beautiful.
As much as I hate that I've been on antibiotics nearly every other week, I must say that I'm so thankful we've found a fantastic doctor just 5 minutes from our house. Dr Lyimo's clinic is very much a local one. There are cement floors, no electricity, and a simple wood table/chair in each patient room. However, he has a fantastic reputation in the local community and I quickly found out why. Not only does this man know his stuff about medicine, but he also has great English skills. He has diagnosed me properly each time I've visited and it's only taken one round of meds to get me back on the right track. Health insurance is not too popular here, so a modest fee of 12,000 TSH (or approx $8) covers the visit plus medication.
Let's hope that all of my little health problems slow down soon. Once I'm feeling energized again, I will write a fancy blog post with new pictures. Until then, I'm sending lots of love to everyone back home. xoxo
About Me
- Mama Zeke
- In 2010, I took a trip to Tanzania in east Africa, not knowing that it would change my life in so many beautiful ways.
Now two years later, I am married to a wonderful Tanzanian man and the mother of one adorable little boy. We are headed home to Africa and on a mission to make a small difference in the world. This is a blog of our adventures.
